microchipIdentification microchip implantation is obligatory by both Greek and European Legislation. Its aims are to ensure both the registration of the overall population and each animal individually.

Registration is achieved in the veterinary clinic via an online system linked directly to the Ministry of Agriculture database. The identification certificate is issued once the microchip has been implanted. Through the database, if an animal is lost or abandoned, the owner can easily be traced by any veterinary clinic.

A microchip can only be surgically removed.
It is a prerequisite for all animals travelling inside and outside the European Union to have microchip identification.
